Another week halfway gone. Today is one of those days that requires a few extra cups of coffee, and so a good soundtrack is especially appreciated. This week I've been daydreaming of long drives, windows down and music turned up. Nothing makes me feel more American than my love of driving. Over the summer I had the chance to drive from Maryland to North Carolina as well as from Maryland to Cape Cod, basically driving most of the length of the east coast on I-95. I know many people would groan at the thought, but I was so happy. On the way home from Cape Cod my iPod ran out of battery (and I didn't want to use international data for Spotify) and so I had to scrolling through the radio to find local stations. I felt transported back to another time, listening in to whatever music I could find, even tuning in by chance to the final airing of Spinning on Air with David Garland.

This week's mix shows a bit more of my true musical love - folk. Dawes and The Civil Wars are two of my favourite contemporary folk groups, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks album is an iconic blend of pop-folk-blues, and Isbells switches things up with some European synth-folk. Don't let the wide variety of genres found on my playlists fool you. My heart will always belong to folk music.
