Midweek Music Break, Vol. 16

It's back - Wednesday tunes for your listening pleasure!

An hour of music curated by a woman who has no credentials for 'cool' or 'hip' taste. But I like these songs so maybe you will, too. If you're sick of the same old music day after day, or if you've forgotten what music sounds like what with podcasts and audiobooks to listen to, or if you just need a little break from the daily grind and stumbled upon this post - here's a little dose of musical therapy for you.

Down in the willow garden where me and my love did meet...

I love old folk songs with history. The first line is so nice and pretty, the start of a romantic ballad perhaps...and then it goes on to tell of murder. I love everything Bon Iver does, but this song is one of my favourites. Morbid, I know.

I've also been loving the new Ra Ra Riot album - they're quite a departure from my usual listening these days, but I will always have a soft spot for their indie pop. I have a happy memory of roadtripping with my best friend to Syracuse for the first time and listening to their album, singing along as we cruised up the scenic landscapes of Pennsylvania and upstate New York on 81. We had no idea that they were a Syracuse band, but when I saw one of their posters up in town after my university visit I took it as a sign. I studied at Syracuse University for two years and although they weren't the best years of my life, I still love the Orange and I love Ra Ra Riot.
